Dwelling Richly in the Classroom

"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach." Colossians 3:16 NIV

What first drew you to teaching? Was it the joy you felt when your excited, uninhibited students greeted you each morning? The hopeful optimism you saw in children who had their whole lives ahead of them? Or the purpose embedded in the opportunity you had, every day, to make a difference in the lives of the twenty or so young people who had been placed in your care?

Whether teaching has been a lifelong passion or something you’re just trying in this season of life, the truth is that you have been called to this classroom in this school for this year. God has placed you here, and you have the opportunity to let the message of Christ dwell within you as you live, day in and day out, with your students.

Take a minute to ask God, Why? Why this school? Why this classroom? Why these students? What does He have for you here this year? What message can you bring, with your unique experience and perspective, to these students?

Finally, ask God, What is Your message that I am to bring to each individual child this year? Our Father is a God of hope, love, acceptance, trust, provision, guidance, goodness, mercy, and so much more.

What message do your students need to hear? Will you commit to allow that message to dwell in your classroom richly this year?

Heavenly Father, I know You have placed me in this school and with these students for a reason this year. Reveal Your purpose to me. Equip me, in Your perfect wisdom, to shine a light on Your truth to each individual student this year. In Your holy name, Amen.
