Be the Man They Need: Manhood According to the Life of Christ

DAY 2 OF 14

Devotional

In our world, greatness is often measured by power, status, and the ability to command others. But in God's kingdom, greatness is defined by service. Jesus, the King of all creation, modeled this perfect example. He didn’t come to be served but to serve, offering His life as a ransom for us.

I had the privilege of serving the homeless on a mission trip, and the experience forever shaped my understanding of service. The people we served lived in unimaginable conditions, yet I was able to meet them with compassion and respect, recognizing that they were made in God's image. They didn’t need more handouts; they needed dignity, connection, and the love of Jesus, all of which we offered freely. That day, I learned that service is not about what we can give but what we can offer out of love and humility.

Jesus demonstrated this kind of love throughout His life. At the Last Supper, He washed His disciples' feet, an act of humility and service so radical that Peter initially rejected it. But Jesus explained, "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet" (John 13:14-15, ESV).

Being a servant means humility. It means thinking more of others than yourself. It’s not about seeking recognition or rewards, but about meeting needs with a heart that reflects Jesus. When we serve, we follow Jesus' example, showing love and lifting others up without expecting anything in return.

Challenge

This week, choose one person in your life to serve intentionally. Offer your help or your time without expecting anything in return. Let it be a true reflection of Jesus’ love for you.

Prayer

Jesus, You are the perfect example of service. Thank You for showing us what true greatness looks like. Help me to serve others humbly, with no expectation of recognition, but out of love and compassion. Let me be a servant in my home, my work, and my relationships, just as You have served me. Amen.

The Man We Needed

Jesus, the Servant King, gave His life to serve us. He showed us that true greatness is not about being served but serving. Now, by God’s grace, it’s your turn.

Be the man they need.
