Engaging in God’s Heart for the Nations: 30-Day Devotional

DAY 13 OF 30

The Harvest Is Plentiful – Day 13

Danny Beasley, Former OMS USA Executive Director

Luke 10:2 (ESV)

“And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Farming is an amazing vocation. It involves many factors outside the farmer’s control; however, its rewards are great. All the laborious work eventually results in thousands of sprouting plants. If all goes well, the farmer can expect the harvest to be 10 to 20 times greater than the original investment in seeds. Mission life has many parallels to farming. In farming, it’s easy to see each stage and the benefits of the harvest.

Mission work needs the same care and attention as farming, though experiencing the harvest may take longer. Not everyone can be a farmer, and while all believers are mandated to share the Gospel, not all believers are called to vocational ministry. For this reason, Jesus’ words remain as true today as they were more than 2,000 years ago.

Jesus clearly states that a great harvest is ready, but more field workers are needed. The field and the harvest are not ours, but the Lord’s. Our responsibility is to ask him to provide the workers for his harvest.

Our desire is for all to hear about salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and live a life transformed by his Holy Spirit. Will you join OMS and many others by setting an alarm for 10:02 a.m. and/or p.m. (from Luje 10:2) to pray that the Lord would raise up more workers to reap the plentiful harvest?
