God Never Quits: God’s Faithfulness When We Fall ShortSýnishorn

Day 2: The Thorns We Keep
God's response to Israel's disobedience wasn't abandonment—it was adjustment.
He didn't walk away, but He did change His strategy. Instead of removing their enemies, He allowed them to remain as thorns and constant temptation.
This wasn't cruel punishment; it was divine pedagogy. Sometimes God teaches us through difficulty rather than deliverance.
Look at your life right now. Are there recurring struggles that frustrate you? Patterns you can't seem to break? Temptations that keep showing up? Before you assume God isn't listening to your prayers for relief, consider this: He might be using those very thorns to teach you something essential.
Israel's enemies became their teachers. Every time they were tempted to worship foreign gods, they were reminded of what happens when they compromise with God's commands.
Every battle they fought was a consequence of the battles they refused to fight earlier.
Your thorns might be financial stress that teaches you dependence. Relationship struggles that reveal character issues you need to address. Work challenges that force you to rely on God's strength instead of your own competence.
The key is learning to see thorns not as evidence of God's absence, but as tools of His presence. He uses even our consequences to accomplish His purposes in our lives.
This doesn't mean God causes every difficulty, but it does mean He can use every difficulty.
The same situations that could drive you away from God can actually drive you toward Him—if you let them.
Instead of resenting the thorns in your life today, ask God what He wants to teach you through them. Sometimes our greatest breakthroughs come not when God removes our struggles, but when He transforms our perspective on them.
Let's pray: Lord, I admit I've been frustrated by the thorns in my life. Help me to see them not as punishment, but as opportunity—chances for You to develop character in me that I couldn't develop any other way. Use even my consequences to draw me closer to You.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
