Beyond the Hype: Finding Confidence in God's Promises

DAY 1 OF 3

Day 1: Where do you find your validation?

About 8-9 years ago I created a hype book. This is a binder that I placed all of my accomplishments and accolades in. And when I was doubting myself, trying to decide next steps or had imposter syndrome I would go grab the book and hype myself up. You got this, you're prepared for this…you were made for this. Just imagine the hype man or woman that comes on stage to excite the crowd for what’s coming next. That’s what my binder was for me - my personal hype person, always ready to remind me of my worth and capability.

The funny thing is that I wasn't allowing the words spoken directly from the word of God to hype me up like that. I trusted pieces of paper inside of a binder more than I trusted the living promises of a Holy God for my life. Was God there with me in all the accolades and accomplishments? I believe so. I always acknowledged God and even thought I was putting Him first. But I realized years later that I was running from the very thing He was calling me to do. Which for you and I is to seek Him first. And because He is a jealous God, He wasn't going to compete with my Hype book.

But what happens when we trust these temporal accomplishments more than we trust the eternal promises of God? Our achievements, while important, are only part of our story. They represent where we've been, not necessarily where God is leading us. God doesn't want to compete with your "Hype book." He wants to be your foundation, your guide, your daily meditation. When we place our trust in our own accomplishments or the validation of others, we often find ourselves running from the very thing God is calling us to do.

Question for Reflection:

What is your "Hype book"? Is it your accomplishments, your bank account, social media validation, or the opinions of others?

Prayer:

Father God, forgive me for the times I've placed my trust in worldly achievements and validation rather than in your promises. Help me to recognize when I'm turning to my own "Hype book" instead of your Word. Teach me to trust in You with all my heart and not to lean on my own understanding. May your voice be louder than any achievement or accolade in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
