DAY 8 OF 8

The Cosmic Exodus of All Creation

In today’s readings, we see how Jesus’ entire cosmic creation fits into the Exodus way theme. From the clutches of the chaos dragon (see today’s video), God is rescuing individuals, families, nations, and ultimately all of his creation.

These New Testament authors try to capture the mystery of this expansive salvation. Paul says all creation “groans” under bondage, waiting to be rescued out of enslavement to corruption and into freedom (Rom. 8:21). The author of Hebrews says Jesus delivers us out of the power of darkness because he made “all things” and promises to reconcile “all things” to himself (Heb. 1:13-20).

The idea is that everything in existence belongs to Jesus, and Jesus loves everything he has made. So he is leading an exodus out of darkness—not only for humanity but for the whole cosmos. Because just like the Israelites in Egypt (Exod. 3:7-9), creation cries out for freedom. Its voice joins our pleas for God to help and to heal. In fact, the Spirit’s voice cries out along with humans and creation “with groanings too deep for words” (Rom. 8:26). Those groanings are taken into the very heart of God, and he responds with real action.

Jesus is ending the way of the chaos dragon and guiding us on the Exodus way. He is leading the world out of slavery and corruption, through transformation, and into lives that partner with God in uniting Heaven and Earth.

Reflection Questions:
From the video, compare the way of the chaos dragon to the way of Jesus, which defeats darkness and chaos to set humanity and all of creation free. How do we participate in God’s work of redeeming all of creation?

Exodus is about salvation, and in that sense, the Exodus way is the salvation way. How would you describe the way the Scripture passages in this reading plan have challenged or deepened your understanding of the way God rescues people and his world?

About this Plan

BibleProject | Discovering the Exodus Way Theme in Scripture

This plan traces the Exodus way theme through foundational stories in the Old Testament, key narratives about John the Baptist and Jesus, and other passages where all of creation experiences deliverance. Together, these passages present the exodus not as one event but as God’s primary way of rescue—a way out of darkness, through transformation, and into new life.
