Choose Prayer, Not Despair

DAY 2 OF 4

The Core Elements of Faith, Alignment, & Persistence

Element #1: Faith

Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” Faith is more than a feeling; it’s a confident assurance that God hears and responds to us. James 1:6-7 encourages us to “believe and not doubt” when we pray, teaching us to approach God with unwavering belief in His goodness and power. In Matthew 9:27-30, when Jesus healed two blind men, He said, “According to your faith let it be to you” (v. 29, NKJV), showing us that faith unlocks God’s miraculous action.

Principle: Effective prayer requires faith that God hears us and will answer according to His will. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17, NKJV). Our faith grows as we read and hear God’s Word, which helps us know His will.

Element #2: Alignment with God’s Will

First John 5:14 assures us that if we ask “according to his will, he hears us.” While it’s natural to bring our desires to God, powerful prayer seeks His purposes above our own, trusting that He knows what’s best for us. James 4:3 says, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives.” God’s will is revealed through Scripture and confirmed by the Holy Spirit. We have the authority to pray His will over ourselves, our families, and our circumstances.

Principle: Effective prayer aligns with God’s will, placing His purposes above our own. We know His will through Scripture and the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth. Remember, John 8:32 says, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (NKJV).

Element #3: Persistence

First Thessalonians 5:17 urges us to “pray continually.” Persistence in prayer isn’t about nagging God but demonstrating our commitment and trust in Him. It’s not about bargaining with God but standing confidently on His promises. Isaiah 43:26 reminds us to bring God’s Word back to Him, not because He forgets but because it strengthens our faith in His unchanging goodness, mercy, love, and grace toward us, His children.

Principle: God values consistent, ongoing prayer that reflects our reliance on Him.
