DAY 8: THE EAGLE IN FLIGHT
Over the last few days, we have spent time discovering more about the living creatures in Revelation 4. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at one of the four creatures: the eagle in flight.
This living creature embodies the prophetic aspect of [our] worship. Sometimes, we get caught up in our own perceptions and ideals about prophecy. We need to constantly remind ourselves that the core focus of prophecy is to reveal and behold Jesus Christ. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Revelation 19:10b).
An eagle in flight can perceive vast distances. Worshippers who have made worship in the Spirit part of their lifestyle have developed this ‘ability’ to ‘perceive’ where God is going with things. When He speaks, they discern, interpret, and internalize what He is saying, enabling them to align their decision-making and communication with His.
An eagle does not flap its wings harder to gain altitude. It simply and ‘effortlessly’ spreads its wings and catches the rising winds, achieving breathtaking heights. Similarly, as worshippers, we are not called to flap our wings and strive hopelessly for greatness. With God’s life in our spirit (Romans 8:9b), we find ourselves drawn ‘upward’ into His light, breathing in the atmosphere of Heaven, living a ‘heavenly experience’ while still here on earth.
As we, like the eagle in the wind currents, abide in Him, our hearts become intertwined with His; our thoughts become infused with His perspectives; we become empowered by the strength and capacity of the Lord Himself. The character and power behind the throne are made available to us by the Holy Spirit as we behold Him and abide in Him. (Isaiah 40:31)
It would be shortsighted to see prophetic worship only as part of a Sunday gathering. The prophetic is part of our design. It is in the way we speak, worship, and engage with people in our families, our workplaces, and our communities. We have the privilege to step into and walk in His truth over our lives. In every environment, we have the opportunity to be a prophetic presence, pointing people toward Jesus. Prophecy enables us to see Him, ourselves, and one another in a whole new light.
May we then, as New Testament prophets, encourage, comfort, and build up one another.
