Holy, Healthy, Whole: Growing Fruits of the Spirit for Weight Loss and Wellness

JOU 20 SOU 30

Declare God’s Faithfulness

I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 89:1 (NIV)

When it comes to my weight loss story, God sure has a sense of humor.

For most of my life, I was a total couch potato. I hated exercise with a passion. I always said the only time you'd see me run is if a bear were chasing me. (And even then, the bear might get a good snack.)

So, consider my life today; the drastic changes can only be attributed to God’s work.

After I’d lost about 40 pounds, I ran a 5K.

Then another.

Then a half marathon.

A few years more and some pounds lighter, I completed over 50 different triathlons, including a Half Ironman.

Then I did distance cycling events of 100-200 miles.

Then I became a black belt in Taekwondo.

If that all sounds a bit crazy to you, believe me – it sounds crazy to me, too. And I lived it!

People love listening to my story. They find it encouraging to see how I’ve overcome challenges. Because I’ve lost weight and accomplished some interesting fitness goals, I’ve had the opportunity to share about God in ways I never could have otherwise.

As I share my stories, I declare God’s faithfulness.

Perhaps you, too, will be called to declare God’s faithfulness as He leads you out of food addiction, weight struggles, or the bondage of binge eating.

Isn’t that exciting to consider?

It doesn’t matter whether your testimony will be about freedom from food addictions or some other topic.

Your mess becomes your message, and your test becomes your testimony.

Reflection: What’s a mess from your life history that’s now part of your message? What test have you endured that’s now part of your testimony of God’s faithfulness?

Prayer: Lord, I give you my mess and pray you will use it to become my message. Take the tests I’ve had in life and use them to become my testimony. May I honor you with my life story, both what you have worked in me and what you are still working. I trust You to use it for Your good and Your glory. Amen.
