The Third Temptation

The devil tries one more time to take a stab at Jesus’ identity.

If you are the son of God, throw yourself from here.

He even supports his temptation by quoting scripture to Jesus. Jesus has been defeating the devil with scripture and the devil tries to use the scripture as a part of his temptation of Jesus.

But Jesus is secure in his identity as the son of God. And He’s spent enough time studying to understand scripture in totality and not just in pieces. So again, Jesus is able to resist the devil. He doesn’t need to prove himself. He is also fully aware of who His Father is and what His Father’s rules are. Not only is Jesus not going to attempt to prove himself, He also isn’t going to do it at the expense of disobeying His Father.

In verse 12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’"

Jesus knows He is the son of God so He doesn't need to test God to see if God will send angels to protect Him. Jesus is already being protected in the wilderness. He's been there 40 days and there's been no harm or danger.

These scriptures show very clearly how important it is to know who we are in Christ so we can withstand the tests of the enemy. God calls us His children. We are heirs to the Kingdom of God. And we can stand firm in our identity in Christ.

I hope this plan was helpful to you. I pray that today and every day you work hard to become secure in your identity in Christ. You are who God says you are and no one can take that from you, ever.
