God’s Love Letter

Most of the time the postman delivers bills. They come in window-faced envelopes and there’s very little joy to be had when you open them. Every now and again, not so often these days of text messaging and email, you might get a plain paper envelope, your name on the front. Inside you find a letter, old fashioned, handwritten.

As you read it, you realise this is no ordinary letter, this is a letter from someone who loves you and knows you; someone who wants to be close to you. Someone who wants you to be close to them. You realise this letter is from God Himself, reaching out to you, reaching deep into your heart. Yet, in your hand are only a few pages, and you want more. This is exactly why God has given us the Bible.

God is a God who wants to be known. The Bible is God’s love letter to His people. It’s part of His self revelation, and it tells us how we can enjoy a deep and satisfying relationship with Him. It gives us the stories of those men and women who have loved God to the depths of their hearts and to the limits of their strength. We read the stories of those who did not care for God at all, and of what happened to them. Open His book, read His word, draw near to Him, and surely He will draw near to you.

Prayer: Lord, as I read your Word every day, help me to know you to the core of my being. Bring your words to life in my heart so I may live my life in the fullness of your love. Amen.
