All the classic fairy tales end with the line “…and they lived happily ever after.” We don’t know the rest of the story, but we know that it ends happily. Often we strive to find and establish our own "happily ever after", but we search for it in all the wrong places.

In the Book of Ruth, God demonstrates many of the things that will shape our "ever after." Each day of this study we will read one chapter from Ruth, with a bottom line which is our central focus, and a one-sentence takeaway for the day.

Bottom Line: God gives us companions.

The story of Ruth is a story of loss and redemption, and in many ways our lives are similar to Ruth’s. Today we look at the start of Ruth’s story when she is alone, having no one to protect her, and clinging to her mother-in-law who is a foreigner. Talk about a tough place to be. At this moment, Ruth likely did not have high hopes for her "ever after." Despite this, she finds companionship with Naomi, and it leads (eventually) to new life.
