Five Myths About CEOs - Part II
In their book, The CEO Next Door, authors Elena Botelho and Kim Powell dived deeply into survey data to determine what similar attributes surfaced for successful CEOs. Their findings debunked several myths we sometimes hold about CEOs. Last time, we looked at the myth that CEOs have larger-than-life personalities. Another myth is that CEOs are destined for greatness from an early age.
Did you know that according to the author’s research, more than 70% of the CEOs interviewed didn’t set out to become CEOs? Instead, they typically had fifteen-plus years of business experience before exploring the possibility of stepping into a CEO role.
In Judges 6:15 Gideon says, "Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house."
Many CEOs begin with the same doubts as Gideon. Don’t be afraid to step into the role for which God has prepared you.
Questions for Reflection:
- Do you think it’s unbiblical to sometimes doubt your abilities?
- How does the Judges passage encourage you?
- Does God select and appoint all CEOs, regardless of their faith in Him? What Scriptures do you know that would support that theory?
