The Israelites have routinely complained that God is blind and deaf to their condition. The prophet turns this back on them. It is not God that is blind and deaf, but the Israelites. They would not pay attention to the prophets he sent. No matter what he did, he could not get their attention. Even when he sent them into destruction, into the violence of war, into the flames, they still didn’t see or hear.
Crisis Converted Now:
One of the most disturbing images throughout Scripture is when God describes what he will do in order to get his people’s attention. God wants good for us for eternity. He also wants good for our present circumstances. Yet, he will discard our current circumstances for our eternal attention. How is God seeking to get your attention today?

In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
