In today's passage, Abram is learning to trust - falteringly. It’s a tough process, that he doesn’t always get right. What is really striking is the risk God is taking here. Sure, Abram has left familiar surroundings on the basis of God’s promise and walked into who-knows-what, but God is tying His salvation purposes for all humanity to this frail and flawed man and his family.
Something to think about while you are reading today’s passage:
God doesn’t choose to execute his plans in a fait accompli. He invites us into the promise as partners, working with us, even as we stumble along. He works with (or around) our failures because of His commitment to achieving His purposes in relationship.
Something to talk about with players of The Aetherlight:
In The Aetherlight, Alexander wrestles with whether he should trust the Scarlet Man and his plans. Perhaps a good question to discuss would be who shows greater trust - Alexander, or the Scarlet Man who called him?
