Picture your laundry basket full of dirty clothes. There are shirts that you have spilled food all over. Jerseys you wore in your game that reek of sweat. So many dirty clothes. Imagine waking up and instead of putting on clean clothes from your closet, you choose the dirty, stinky clothes from your laundry basket. Even your pet dog won’t come near you. 

When we choose to sin and turn away from God’s ways, it’s like we are putting on filthy, smelly clothes. Each time we lie, care more about ourselves than our friends, lash out at our family, and speak negatively about others, we are stepping into the filth of sin. God, however, is calling us to stop living our lives opposed to Him (in dirty clothes) and to start living with and for Him (in clean clothes). 

Like Colossians 3 says, let’s “learn to know our Creator and become like Him.” Let’s put on the clean clothes of kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Let’s love and live at peace with one another. We will be tempted to put on the dirty clothes of sin every day of our lives. Let’s resist those temptations today as we get to know the God who saved us from our sins. Ask God to help you honor Him with your words and deeds today, knowing He is with you and has made you clean.
