Have you ever overeaten and immediately felt sick? Maybe you ate one too many slices of pizza or too much at Thanksgiving. Chances are you were allowed to eat that much and didn’t break a rule, but you still quickly learned that wasn’t a good decision. That points to what Paul is saying in this verse. Sometimes we don’t need to ask if something is allowed, but instead if it is beneficial. This is especially true when it comes to relationships and setting physical boundaries. Even when the world is telling you sex is casual and everything is okay, you need to ask what is best for you, the other person, and your futures. When we learn to ask this question, we have a better chance of using the freedom God has given us in a way that keeps us free.
This week, talk with your leader, a trusted friend, or a wise adult in your life. Give them the freedom to speak into your life about areas that may be mastering you.
