Chances are you may not know a ton about shepherds, but the people listening to Jesus at the time certainly did. They knew that a good shepherd was one who knew everything about each one of his sheep—their names, their needs, their concerns. Knowing his sheep helped a shepherd give unique care to each one of his sheep. 

So, if Jesus is your good shepherd, that means the kind of love and care He gives to you is just like that. It’s unique to you. It’s personal because He knows you better than anyone and He wants to take care of you.
