One last thought on Jesus' mind while on the cross was that of radical forgiveness.  He spoke forgiveness to His murderers.  This is so strange to the reader and to those who first heard Jesus' words.  We expect and even demand retaliation and retribution.  Jesus' ways are different than our ways.  

He pardoned the executioner.  He forgave those who injured Him in real-time.  Only Christ could pray such a prayer.  Only He could make such a demand.  

Not only is Jesus talking to His tormentors back then, but He is also speaking to us today.  These words of radical forgiveness are spoken to us and our sin today.  

Consider how you have been an enemy of God in the past, thank the Lord for His extreme forgiveness from the cross.
