Introduction to First Corinthians
The Apostle Paul is the author of this letter to the church in Corinth. He started this church and kept in touch with the congregation there, so he knew these people well. This church was made up mostly of Gentiles. Scholars believe this letter was written around A.D. 55, which would have been at the end of Paul’s 3-year journey in Ephesus.
The church was experiencing some serious problems and had issues that needed addressing. Paul was challenging them to work together to further the gospel of Jesus because they were divided. He doesn’t mince words nor does he shy away from tackling some pretty intense subjects in this letter because they were condoning and participating in sin.
