Worship and Strength
Nehemiah 11:23
“The singers were under the king’s orders, which regulated their daily activity.”
Nehemiah 12:27
“At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps and lyres…”
Worship was at the center of life in Jerusalem. The king took personal responsibility for its practice. The physical walls of Jerusalem represented strength, but they were no replacement for the presence of the Lord. Nehemiah knew that the joy of the Lord was their strength. Worship to God was the strength, the heart and the center of this community. Jerusalem existed for worship.
Why are we alive?
We too exist for worship. We too live under the king’s orders. When we live as instruments of worship for His glory, we too find strength. The worship on the walls of Jerusalem symbolizes their true source of strength.
Father, may my life of worship bring you glory and praise today. You are my strength.
