The Presence of Jesus in Suffering
Revelation 1:9
“I, John…was on the island of Patmos because of the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus.”
Jeremiah 52:11
“Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon, where he put him in prison till the day of his death.”
Jeremiah the prophet called Zedekiah and his leadership team to repent and obey the word of the Lord. He prophesied the specific judgment that should happen to Zedekiah if he persisted in resisting God’s word to him. Torture and prison awaited him. John the apostle also found himself exiled in prison on an island. However, he was suffering for the testimony of Jesus and the Word of God, not rebellion. Not all suffering is the same. Some suffer for their rebellion and sin, others for their faithfulness and witness for Christ. The difference is the presence of Jesus in the midst of the suffering. John received the amazing revelation of Jesus Christ and His eternal redemptive plan while suffering. We cannot underestimate the value of suffering when Jesus is leading and present in our lives.
Lord Jesus, walk with me this day and give me your perspective of all I face, for your glory.
