The Good Way
Jeremiah 6:16-17
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.’ But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ I appointed watchmen over you and said ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ ”
God always gives us choices and the free will to decide whether we will follow His ways or not. The consequences of following God’s ways and listening to His trumpet are rest for our souls and peace. The consequences of rebellion are further obstacles in our lives and ultimately God’s judgment. When we are in crossroads moments individually, as families or as God’s people – we are called to stop, to look, to ask for the ancient paths, the good way that leads to life and then walk in it. The wise man instructed his son to walk in the paths of wisdom and the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 3 & 4). We too will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and men if we live with love and faithfulness, walking in trust and dependence on the Lord and acknowledge Him in all our ways. (Proverbs 3:3-6).
Father God, thank you for teaching us your good ways and ancient paths. Thank you for appointing watchmen and giving me your Word. Give me faith and courage to choose your good ways today.
