First Love
1 Samuel 12:24
“Be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.”
2 Corinthians 11:2
“I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.”
Both Samuel and Paul are focused on the devotion of God’s people. Their call back to whole-hearted worship, love and service to God needs to be heard by every generation.
Have we lost our first love for God?
Are we flirting with other lovers?
Once we receive God’s blessing and provision, do we forget him?
The ministry of leaders to God’s people is that of the attendants to the groom - to the bride, calling her to faithfulness and purity. The strength of God’s jealousy for his people is motivated by deep love.
Will we invite God to share with us the same passion for his people?
Lord Jesus, deepen my love for your people and our faithfulness to you. You are our first love and my heart is yours.
