I have been following Jesus for almost 40 years and for the past 27 years of full-time ministry I have almost lived in church. I have to be honest, in all that time I have heard more about the still, small voice of God than about any other way that He speaks. For many years it shaped how I related to Him. Hearing the voice of God was a hard thing.

Some of you, too, were brought up on the idea that God’s voice is tiny and quiet. You may have drawn the conclusion that if this is the case, then His voice must be difficult to find. 

There are many of you reading this right now and that is your reality. 

This may well be the case, but it’s not because God is unwilling to speak. It could very well be because you are expecting it to be hard and tricky. As Jesus said “according to your faith it will be done to you”.

So many of us come to Jesus with our burdens and then we replace them with spiritual ones. Finding His will, praying enough, hearing His voice, reading His Word enough, and to be honest, you’re exhausted and feel like you’re failing at this Christian life! 

Jesus said His yoke was easy. Did you get that? Easy! Yet we often expect spiritual stuff to be just the opposite…hard.

My prayer is that your expectation of a God who hides and whispers will be replaced by the truth that you follow a God who is more willing to speak than you are to listen.
