Nan denmen maten vre, Jozye leve byen bonè, li fè tout pèp Izrayèl la pwoche vin jwenn li, branch fanmi pa branch fanmi. Se branch fanmi Jida a Senyè a te denonse. Li fè fanmi Jida yo vin jwenn li yonn apre lòt. Se fanmi Zerak la Senyè a te denonse. Li fè tout chèf fanmi Zerak yo vin jwenn li yonn apre lòt ak tout fanmi yo. Se Zabdi Senyè a te denonse. Zabdi fè tout moun pa l yo pwoche grenn pa grenn. Se konsa Senyè a denonse Akan, pitit Kami an. Kami te pitit Zabdi, Zabdi te pitit Zerak, yo tout te fè pati branch fanmi Jida a. Jozye di Akan konsa: — Pitit mwen, fè lwanj Senyè a! Moutre ou gen respe pou Bondye pèp Izrayèl la! Kounyeya, di m kisa ou fè. Pa kache m anyen. Akan reponn li: — Se vre wi. Se mwen ki peche kont Senyè a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la. Men sa m fè. Nan bagay nou te pran apre batay la, mwen te wè yon bèl manto ki te sòti lavil Babilòn, desan (200) pyès an ajan ki te peze wit liv antou, ak yon gwo moso lò ki te peze de liv. Mwen te sitèlman anvi yo, mwen pran yo. Mwen fouye yon twou nan mitan tant kote m rete a, mwen antere yo ladan l, avèk pyès ajan yo anba nèt. Jozye voye kèk mesaje ki kouri al nan tant Akan an. Yo jwenn tout bagay yo nan twou a avèk pyès ajan yo anba nèt. Yo pran yo, yo sòti avèk yo nan tant lan. Yo pote yo bay Jozye ak tout pèp Izrayèl la. Yo mete yo atè devan Senyè a. Jozye, ansanm ak tout moun pèp Izrayèl yo, pran Akan, pyès ajan yo, manto a, moso lò a ansanm ak pitit fi l yo, pitit gason l yo, bèlfi li yo, bèf li yo, bourik li yo, mouton l yo ak tout lòt bagay li te genyen, yo mennen yo nan Fon Malè. Epi Jozye di Akan konsa: — Poukisa ou rale tout malè sa a sou tèt nou? Jòdi a, Senyè a pral fè malè tonbe sou ou! Epi tout moun pèp Izrayèl yo pran wòch, yo kalonnen yo jouk yo touye yo. Yo boule tout bagay yo nan dife. Yo touye tout fanmi l yo ak bèt li yo ak koutwòch. Yo mete yon gwo pil wòch sou yo. Gwo pil wòch sa a la jouk jòdi a. Se poutèt sa, jouk jòdi a, yo rele kote sa a Fon Malè. Se konsa Senyè a te sispann move sou pèp la.

Le jour suivant, Josué se lève tôt le matin. Il fait approcher les Israélites tribu par tribu. La tribu de Juda est désignée. Josué fait approcher cette tribu clan après clan, et le clan de Zéra est désigné. Il fait approcher ce clan famille après famille, et la famille de Zabdi est désignée. Il fait avancer l’un après l’autre les hommes de cette famille. Akan est désigné. C’est le fils de Karmi, petit-fils de Zabdi, arrière-petit-fils de Zéra, de la tribu de Juda. Josué dit à Akan : « Mon ami, reconnais la grandeur du SEIGNEUR, Dieu d’Israël, et dis la vérité. Dis-moi ce que tu as fait, ne me cache rien. » Akan répond à Josué : « Oui, c’est moi qui ai péché contre le SEIGNEUR, Dieu d’Israël. Voici ce que j’ai fait : j’ai vu parmi les richesses de l’ennemi un très beau vêtement de Mésopotamie, deux cents pièces d’argent et un demi-kilo d’or. J’en ai eu envie et je les ai pris. Vous les trouverez cachés dans la terre, au milieu de ma tente, et l’argent est dessous. » Alors Josué envoie des hommes à la tente d’Akan. Ils y vont tout de suite et ils trouvent les objets cachés dans la tente, avec l’argent dessous. Ils les sortent de là, puis les apportent à Josué et aux Israélites. Ils placent ces objets devant le SEIGNEUR. Josué et tous les Israélites prennent Akan, fils de Zéra, avec l’argent, le vêtement et le demi-kilo d’or. Ils prennent aussi ses fils et ses filles, ses bœufs, ses ânes, ses moutons et ses chèvres, sa tente et tout ce qu’il possède. Ils les emmènent dans la vallée d’Akor. Josué dit à Akan : « Tu nous as porté malheur, pourquoi ? Eh bien, que le SEIGNEUR te porte malheur aujourd’hui ! » Alors les Israélites le tuent en lui jetant des pierres. Ils détruisent de la même façon sa famille et ce qui lui appartient, puis ils brûlent tout. Ensuite, on élève sur lui un grand tas de pierres qui existe encore aujourd’hui. C’est pourquoi aujourd’hui encore, cet endroit porte le nom de « Vallée d’Akor ». Après cela, la colère du SEIGNEUR se calme.

Early the next morning Joshua had Israel come forward by tribes, and Judah was chosen. The clans of Judah came forward, and the Zerahites were chosen. He had the clan of the Zerahites come forward by families, and Zimri was chosen. Joshua had his family come forward man by man, and Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was chosen. Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and honor him. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.” Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I have done: When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.” So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver underneath. They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and spread them out before the LORD. Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold bar, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor. Joshua said, “Why have you brought this trouble on us? The LORD will bring trouble on you today.” Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them. Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day. Then the LORD turned from his fierce anger. Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor ever since.

Le lendemain, Josué se leva de bon matin et fit avancer les Israélites tribu par tribu. Et c’est la tribu de Juda qui fut désignée. Il la fit approcher groupe familial par groupe familial, le sort désigna celui de Zérah. Il fit passer les familles du groupe familial de Zérah l’une après l’autre, et c’est la famille de Zabdi qui fut désignée. Il fit avancer cette famille homme par homme, et Akân, fils de Karmi, descendant de Zabdi et de Zérah, de la tribu de Juda, fut désigné par le sort. Josué lui dit : Mon fils, je te prie solennellement, au nom de l’Eternel, le Dieu d’Israël, de l’honorer en m’avouant ce que tu as fait, sans rien me cacher. Akân lui répondit : C’est vrai, j’ai commis une faute envers l’Eternel, le Dieu d’Israël. Voici ce que j’ai fait : J’ai vu dans le butin un magnifique manteau de Babylone, deux cents pièces d’argent et un lingot d’or d’une livre. J’en ai eu fortement envie, alors je m’en suis emparé. Ces objets sont enterrés au milieu de ma tente, et l’argent est en-dessous. Josué envoya des hommes à la tente d’Akân, ils se dépêchèrent d’y aller et retrouvèrent effectivement le manteau enfoui dans la tente et l’argent en-dessous. Ils prirent le tout et l’apportèrent à Josué et à tous les Israélites, puis on le déposa devant l’Eternel. Josué, aidé de tous les Israélites, saisit Akân avec l’argent, le manteau et le lingot d’or, ainsi que ses fils, ses filles, ses bœufs, ses ânes, ses brebis, sa tente, bref, tout ce qui lui appartenait, et ils les menèrent dans la vallée d’Akor. Josué dit à Akân : Pourquoi nous as-tu attiré le malheur ? Que l’Eternel fasse ton malheur aujourd’hui ! Alors tous les Israélites le lapidèrent. Ils lapidèrent aussi tous les siens et brûlèrent les cadavres. Puis on éleva sur lui un grand tas de pierres qui existe encore aujourd’hui. Après cela, l’Eternel abandonna sa colère. C’est à cette occasion que l’endroit fut appelé vallée d’Akor (vallée du Malheur), nom qui lui est resté jusqu’à ce jour.
