Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

Paul writes in Philippians the passage that provides one of the greatest images of the scandal of God’s plan to save humanity. Christ Jesus, being in very nature God - God Himself - would put aside His glory and make Himself like you and I. He left heaven and gave away all that belonged to Him to gain that which was most precious to Him.

He didn’t stop at the incarnation (becoming human), He went all the way to the cross. Ultimately, we celebrate Easter at Christmas, knowing that the path our Saviour took led to death, yet ultimately true life.

The exaltation of Jesus is the ultimate victory, one into which we are invited. We marvel at the scandal, at the humiliation of the One who would set us free. We thank Jesus for His example of ultimate humility and ask Him for strength to follow in His footsteps.
