Small Things

DAY 1 OF 5

Small is significant

Have you considered praying for God’s small ‘coincidences’ to be active in your life?

On a flight to a major city, I picked up a magazine and read about a couple so wealthy they used gold and silver dinnerware at parties and returned it to a bank vault after use. It was beyond my comprehension. I thought, ‘I’m glad I don’t need to meet them!’

When the plane landed, I got a message to call a friend of international significance. Even before I heard who she wanted me to meet, I had a feeling it would be the couple in the magazine story.

I had a seemingly uneventful meeting with them in their opulent home. They had almost no spiritual interest, and I moved on.

Soon after, when traveling on the other side of the world, I felt prompted to send this couple a postcard, a tradition of mine at the time.

I later received a message from my friend who had arranged the meeting with the couple: ‘You sent a postcard to them from so far away. They said this deeply touched them.’ This small act of care opened the door for my friend to share spiritually with them.

On another occasion, I was desperate to talk to someone from a leading sports magazine about how they report stories of athletes with faith. I knew no one from the magazine. However, when visiting a friend whose children I had served spiritually, I discovered his next-door neighbor was the publisher of the magazine. Incredible! The three of us later met for lunch.

Scripture to Ponder : Zechariah 4:10a (NIV)

"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin."

Key Lesson:

It is often the smallest acts of caring that can have the most meaningful impact.
