Anchored in His Strength

DAY 9 OF 30

God Is Our Shield and Stronghold

“The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped... The Lord is their [unyielding] Strength, and He is the Stronghold of salvation to His anointed.” — Psalm 28:7–8 AMPC

Shields are meant to protect us from attacks. In battle, they guard against arrows and blows. Spiritually, the Lord Himself is our Shield—an impenetrable covering against the enemy’s schemes.

David says his heart “trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped.” Notice the connection: trusting leads to leaning, leaning leads to help, and help leads to praise. David responds to God’s protection with joy and thanksgiving.

But God isn’t just David’s Shield—He is also a Stronghold. A stronghold is a place of safety, often built high on a hill, designed to be unshakable and hard to penetrate. When we make God our stronghold, we are secure, no matter what storms rage around us.

Sometimes we try to shield ourselves with human wisdom, money, or relationships. But those shields eventually fail. God’s shield never does. His strength is unyielding. His protection is certain.

So, whether your battle feels big or small, know this: God is both your Shield and your Stronghold. You can lean fully on Him and find safety in His strength.

Reflection Question:
What battle are you trying to fight in your own strength that you need to surrender to God, your Shield and Stronghold?
