Romans 15
The Power of a Clear Calling
Paul’s words in Romans 15 show a man with unwavering clarity: “It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known.” He wasn’t interested in building on someone else’s foundation—he was driven to take the gospel where it hadn’t yet reached.
He draws from Isaiah: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.” Paul didn’t just admire the Scripture—he saw himself in it. It gave shape to his purpose.
This kind of clarity guards against distraction and comparison. Paul didn’t try to be like Peter, Apollos, or anyone else. He knew who he was and what he was called to do. That’s why he could endure hardship, travel constantly, and face resistance—because he had a vision anchored in Scripture and a heart set on obedience.
His example challenges us to ask: Have we made space to hear God’s specific call for our lives? Are we running our race, or trying to run someone else’s?
When our ambition is shaped by the Spirit, it produces fruit that lasts. Paul wasn’t driven by ego or recognition—he was fuelled by the desire to see those who had never heard come to know Jesus.
