The Holy Spirit Shows Up

Have you ever felt like you are waiting on God to show up? The disciples knew that feeling. After Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would come, they entered a season of waiting. Although it may have seemed like a delay, God was not late. Right on time, the Spirit came with power and authority. He filled the disciples, enabling them to boldly preach the Gospel and perform miraculous healings in Jesus’ name. What seemed like waiting was preparation for something extraordinary.

Jesus’ promise was fulfilled, but probably not in the way the disciples expected. God often works this way in our lives, too—not always in the way we hope or imagine, but always in the way we need most.

Take a quick look at what the day of Pentecost may have been like.

The day of Pentecost marks the arrival of God’s Spirit and anointing, not just for the first-century Christians, but for us today. Pentecost is Jesus’ promise come true! With the arrival of the Spirit comes the birth of the Early Church: the new, Spirit-filled people of God, who are empowered to continue Jesus’ ministry until His return.

The Spirit does not always move in the ways we expect. Sometimes He shows up with power and intensity, like on the day of Pentecost. Other times, He moves quietly—through a whisper, a prompting, or a gentle nudge to act. A sudden urge to encourage someone, a quiet conviction, or even a simple moment of peace can be the Spirit at work. In all things, His presence is alive and active. The Spirit is not just moving around you. He is ready to move through you. Stay open. Stay expectant and anticipate the Spirit moving in you today.
