The Gospel of John

DAY 12 OF 30

“I’m Staying with You, Jesus”

In John 6, Jesus makes a bold claim—He is the Bread of Life. But His teaching was hard to understand, and for many, it was too much. John 6:66 (ESV) says, “After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.” Jesus then asked the Twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

This is the heartbeat of true discipleship: staying with Jesus even when the path is difficult. Not everything Jesus says is easy. Not every season following Him is convenient. But He is worth it. He alone has the words of eternal life.

When I first gave my life to Jesus, I couldn’t get enough. I listened to sermons constantly, went to every service I could, and loved attending Christian concerts at events like Rock the Universe and Night of Joy. Those were incredible experiences—fun, faith-filled, and full of great memories with friends.

But it wasn’t the loud worship nights or the concerts that matured me. Growth came when I denied myself—when I chose the hard path of obedience over comfort. It came in seasons of sacrifice, surrender, and pressing forward when it would’ve been easier to stay still.

Maybe you’ve followed Jesus mostly in the comfortable places. You go to church, listen to worship music, and enjoy faith-based community—but when it comes to laying down your plans or preferences, it’s harder to say yes. Today, Jesus is asking, “Will you stay with Me?”

Peter’s response can be yours, too: “Where else would I go? You have the words of eternal life.” Jesus isn’t just one option—He’s the only way, the truth, and the life.

Respond to God’s Word

  1. Say it out loud today: “I’m staying with You, Jesus.” Let your voice strengthen your commitment.
  2. Identify one area where you’ve chosen comfort over obedience. Surrender it to the Lord and take a small step of faith.
  3. Encourage someone else who may be struggling to stay faithful. Your testimony can give them courage to keep going.

Don’t settle for comfortable. Choose Christ. He’s worth every step.
