The Gospel of John

DAY 11 OF 30

Jesus, the Bread of Life

After feeding the 5,000, Jesus used the miracle to point to a deeper truth—He is the Bread of Life. The crowd sought more food, but Jesus challenged them to hunger for something greater than temporary satisfaction. He said in John 6:35 (ESV), “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

This passage reminds us that only Jesus can satisfy the deepest hunger of the human heart. Our souls long for meaning, identity, peace, and purpose. We often try to feed that hunger with success, relationships, entertainment, or approval—but none of it lasts. Only Jesus gives eternal life, and only in Him do we find true fulfillment.

At the beginning of every year, our church sets aside 21 days for prayer and fasting. It’s a sacred time to consecrate ourselves and seek God’s direction. Personally, it resets my heart and realigns my priorities. Fasting isn’t about earning God’s love—it’s about quieting the noise of life to hear His voice more clearly. When I give up distractions, I realize just how hungry I am for Jesus. And every year, I experience again that He is enough. He is the Bread of Life.

Maybe you’ve been feeling empty or restless. Maybe you’re trying to fill a hunger in your soul with things that fade. Jesus is inviting you to come to Him today—to trust Him not just for provision, but for life itself. He’s not just a teacher or miracle-worker. He is the source of life, eternal and abundant. And He wants to satisfy your soul.

Respond to God’s Word

  1. Fast from something today—social media, snacking, entertainment—anything that competes for your attention. Use that time to pray, read Scripture, or worship.
  2. Write down what you are hungry for. Ask Jesus to meet that need and trust that only He truly can.
  3. Take a walk, journal, or sit quietly for a few moments, intentionally seeking Jesus and reflecting on His words.

Jesus doesn’t just give bread—He is the Bread. Come to Him. Feed your soul on His truth. Let Him fill the emptiness with Himself.
