Purpose in the Pause: Finding Hope in the Waiting

DAY 1 OF 3

Have you ever felt like the very thing you thought God created you for wasn’t working? That was me. I’d spent years discerning my purpose, praying, refining my mission statement, and committing it to memory. I trained for it, worked for it, and gave it my all. I knew what I was called to do, how I would do it, and why it mattered.

But the results didn’t match the effort. My progress stalled, measurable outcomes were rare, and I was left wondering if I had heard God wrong. Did I miss His plan? Take a wrong turn?

If you’ve ever been there—confused, frustrated, and doubting your direction—I understand. It’s hard when we pour our hearts into something, convinced it’s from God, only to face roadblocks and delays.

The truth I discovered in that season changed everything.

While God deeply cares about what we do, He’s even more invested in who we are becoming. His ultimate purpose for us isn’t measured by external achievements but by the transformation happening within us.

The story of Abraham reminds us of this truth. God gave him a monumental promise—to make him the father of many nations. Yet, for 25 years, Abraham waited, day after day, with no visible progress. God could have fulfilled the promise instantly, but instead, He used the waiting to shape Abraham into a man of deep faith and trust.

In the same way, God often uses our seasons of waiting or stalled progress to shape us into the people He created us to be.

When our purpose feels stuck, it’s easy to spiral into doubt, but perhaps the question isn’t “What am I supposed to do next?” but “Who is God forming me to become right now?”

Waiting can feel like wasted time, but in God’s economy, it’s sacred ground—an invitation to trust, to listen, and to grow.

For today, prayerfully consider, what if this waiting season isn’t a detour but the very path God is using to prepare me for what’s ahead?

Prayer:
“Lord, when my progress feels slow, help me to trust that You are at work, inviting me into something deeper.”

Tomorrow, we’ll explore why God often starts with “who” instead of “why” and how this shift changes everything.
