Relationship With God: Come as You Areનમૂનો

Free and intimate access to God as Father
“My father is a fireman!”
“Well, my father is a pop star!”
“Mine works at the bank!”
“My Father is God!”
Hallelujah!
As sons and daughters of God, we may be proud of our Father, like children who brag to each other about their fathers. We may run to Him, rest with Him, and draw near to Him. You may and can because of the position you now have with God.
But do you also see it that way? Do you also approach God that way? Because that is what He wants.
Imagine if children approached their father this way:
“Dad, Daddy, I love you, Dad, if it is your will, Dad, would I then maybe, I beg - I don't want to bother you, but Daddy would I then…”
You would say as a parent, “Get a grip, what is it? Just ask, say what's up!”
We find such a humble and pleading attitude inappropriate for a father and child when the relationship is good.
Yet, we often do approach our heavenly Father that way. We beg, pray, and plead in a way that is anything but free. In great uncertainty, we stand before God just to get something done from Him.
That does not come across as an “intimate relationship” with God as Father. It does not come across like you who know Him personally, like a child knows their father. As someone who knows his “identity” in Christ and his position with the Father.
God is not a God who is “far away,” He is near!
Firstly, He is “in” you (John 14:23).
His Kingdom is 'in' you (Luke 17:21).
Secondly, we have an “Advocate” with the Father.
1 John 2:1
“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
To advocate is, thanks to the mediation of someone or at someone's suggestion, obtaining something. The dictionary gives two examples of the meaning of advocacy:
- By his advocacy, I got the job.
- Your advocacy will help me.
In advocacy, there is a component of a helper. In the case of your position with the Father and how you may approach Him, we have been given free and intimate access through Jesus. He is the link in this; Jesus made it possible.
What does this intercession produce thanks to Jesus? That we may always approach God boldly. See also Hebrews 4:16:
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Whereas Queen Esther in the Old Testament was not allowed to step up to the king without notice and could even lose her life, you are allowed to run into your Father's throne room at any time. You can jump right into His lap and say how much you love Him.
Of course, we respect and adore Him, He is God, but He is also our Daddy! That makes it very personal.
We don't have to approach Him in guilt, shame, and condemnation. We may leave behind a pleading attitude or even a slavish attitude, for we are heirs of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7).
That is your new position with the Father!
That is wonderfully good news!
So, know your new position and leave behind an “unnatural” religious way of approaching God. You don't have to do that anymore. Jesus has made that possible for you. Be yourself and come as His son or daughter.
Because that's who you are!
