Overbooked & Overwhelmed

DAY 4 OF 5

Our souls were created for a consistency with our consistent God that keeps us anchored to Him. Staying anchored, my friend, is how we keep up with God when we’re just trying to keep up with life. We don’t anchor ourselves to external circumstances but to a God who is faithful to us and, in return, inspires us to be faithful to Him.

I will confess that I’ve relapsed back into what I call a “distracted dissonance” many times over the last few years, and each time I’ve come out of it, I’ve boldly declared that I am done putting Jesus on the back burner. But then what happened? My intentions didn’t get me very far and I quickly went running back to putting the world before the Word. This happened because my foundation was shaky at best. I was not disciplined in my actions, and I was wishy-washy in my commitment.

So as you consider the importance of regular, small steps of faithfulness, think of it as spiritual construction work. When we invest regularly in consistent acts of faith, we’re building a foundation—or reconstructing an established foundation—on the faithfulness of God. This foundation will help us stay the course when the enemy would rather us remain too overwhelmed and too overbooked to give God the time of day. Learning how to instill the right rhythms and habits creates a more trained version of ourselves and, as a result, leaves less of ourselves vulnerable for the enemy to attack.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being consistent and trustworthy. Please guide me as I establish rhythms and habits that keep my focus on You and Your goodness. Amen.

About this Plan

Ever have those days where every battery in your life is running low? Every ping you hear is from someone who needs you. Every item you cross off your list has three more to take its place. And the result? God ends up getting the leftovers. How can we stop the busyness long enough to pursue what we know we need the most? With the help of this 5-day plan, discover how to intentionally keep Jesus first amid your over-busy, over-notified, and overwhelmed life.
