Jesus Is the Glue

"'And the two shall become one flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh." (Mark 10:8)

Suppose I took a piece of super-strong adhesive tape and stuck it on your arm. As long as no one tampers with it, it will stay there forever. But what happens if I rip it off and then stick it on your other arm? It will still be strong, but it won’t be as sticky as it was the first time. What if I repeat the process three, four, five, six, seven times? What’s going to happen by the seventh time? Well, eventually, it won’t be able to stick to anything. That’s how God created you and me. We were designed to be bound, joined together with just one person for life. But the more people we have sex with, the harder it is to find a lasting bond. Our modern-day culture has cheapened sex and made it as trivial as brushing your teeth, but the Bible teaches that when a man and woman come together in intercourse that it’s not just physical but two souls coming together. That’s why the Scripture says, “Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul” (Prov. 6:32).

So if you’re a virgin, I plead with you to guard this precious gift with your life. But what if you’re not? Is there still hope for you? Yes, with Jesus, there is always hope. Christ can come in and be the glue. He can take that lifeless, creased piece of tape and bind it to another flesh for life. His blood washes away the sins of our past, and He then clothes your naked body, which is ashamed, in His righteous garment. And His cloak of righteous is one size that fits all. Although some of us made a real mess before marriage, God can make us pure again and join us with another in marriage. And never forget, “What therefore God has joined together let not man separate” (Mark 10:9).
