The Windshield Life: Leaving the Rearview Behind

DAY 5 OF 5

Day Five
Moving Forward in Freedom

So often, shame and guilt try to chain us to our past. I felt like I was stuck and letting everyone down because of an insincere childhood profession of faith I made in my home church. But God never intended for us to stay stuck. His Word reminds us: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV).

Through Jesus, we are not defined by yesterday’s failures. Paul says, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on…” (Philippians 3:13-14 NIV). That means our identity is no longer tied to mistakes but to the hope of who we are becoming in Christ.

And here’s the good news: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1 NIV). When we turn our eyes to Him, “our faces are radiant; they are never covered with shame” (Psalm 34:5 NIV). God Himself promises, “I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” (Hebrews 8:12 NIV).

Imagine that—the Creator of the universe has chosen to forget what He’s already forgiven. If He’s moved on, why shouldn’t we?

Today, let’s walk forward as "new creations" (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV), unshackled from shame and full of joy, knowing our sins have been hurled into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19 NIV).

Step into the freedom He’s already given you. The past is gone. The new has come. The future is straight ahead!
