DAY 1 OF 15

GENESIS 37

Joseph was his father’s favorite son, and Jacob didn’t hide this affection—he gave him a long robe. This special treatment led to jealousy and persecution from his brothers, who eventually sold him in to slavery for a few coins and had him taken to Egypt. But, where was God during this situation?

God was using Joseph’s story to point toward the One who would be hated by many, but who is the beloved and favored Son of God: Jesus. The Lord made a point of proving His love for Jesus—just like Jacob did (Matthew 3:16–17)—to make everyone who believes in Jesus a favored child too. Jesus was the Brother who gave us full access to the Father’s love.

LET'S PRAY:

When was the last time you simply stopped and allowed yourself to be loved by God? Stop now, and practice the long-forgotten art of receiving. Receive God's love, affection, desires, thoughts, and heart for you. He is looking at you right now and thinking, “Ow! How I love what I have created! You are so beautiful!” Just say, “Father, could you show me how much you love me?” Spend a few minutes listening to His words of affirmation to you! (Don't rush here, just leave after your heart feels warm.)
