Relationships That Flourish: A 30-Day Devotional on Finding Security in Christ and Growing Healthy Connections

DAY 3 OF 30

Jesus cared deeply for those around Him. Scripture tells us He is a servant who emptied Himself in humility and love. In Philippians 2, Paul urges us to follow His example. However, Jesus’ generosity of spirit and service to those around him did not mean that He had no limits or needs of his own. In fact, healthy boundaries allowed Him to serve others with strength and clarity.

Consider the following characteristics of Jesus. First, Jesus lived to please His Father. Though fully God, He chose to take on the full realities of being human. When he said yes, it was with intention and discernment that it was the best yes. When he acted selflessly, it was with the purest of intentions and out of genuine love. Every “yes” He gave was intentional, aligned with God’s will, and offered from genuine love—not guilt or pressure. His humanity meant He valued time to rest and refuel. Luke 5:16 tells us He often withdrew to quiet places to pray. This rhythm of serving and intentionally resting is a model for us.

Boundaries protect our most important relationship—our relationship with God. Knowing our limits equips us to love others better. When we set healthy boundaries, we grow in self-control, love, and trust in God, seeking His approval above all else.

Reflect: How do you view boundaries in your own life? Is there a boundary you can set this week to protect your time with God?

Pray: Jesus, thank You for showing me how to love with both generosity and wisdom. Help me to honor my limits, protect my relationship with You, and serve others with a full heart.
