Nehemiah's Response to CrisisNäide

The Moment of Opportunity
When the king sees Nehemiah, he immediately senses that something is troubling him. Nehemiah’s burden for Jerusalem shows on his face—he’s visibly distressed. When we carry a true vision from God, it affects us deeply. It doesn't let us stay indifferent. And that’s exactly what we see in Nehemiah.
The king asks him what’s wrong, and Nehemiah explains the situation in Jerusalem. People often ask us similar questions in passing—but what sets this moment apart is what the king says next: “What do you want to do?”
It’s a simple question, but answering it isn’t always easy. Anyone who has ever tried to apply for leave—especially in a critical role—can relate. Bosses usually hesitate when key people want time off. Nehemiah, as the royal cupbearer, held a vital position. Yet this moment was exactly what he had been praying for: favor before the king.
With a quick prayer in his heart, Nehemiah responds—even though the odds were against him. And then the Lord does the unthinkable. Nehemiah not only gets his leave—but also the king’s full support and resources for the mission ahead.
Let’s Ponder
Doubt eats away at opportunities. Are you viewing your open doors as potential traps?
Caution is wise, but there comes a time when you must step out in courage, exercising faith and the wisdom God gives.
