The Treasures of HebrewsNäide

“…He was heard because of His reverence.” (Hebrews 5:7 ESV)
We have a great high priest: Jesus. Because Jesus has entered heaven, we can be reconciled with God and enjoy communion with him. How does the author describe this?
One of the most remarkable words in this section is that Jesus had 'compassion'. He can have compassion because he was tempted like all men. However, He withstood temptation, just as He did during His 40 days in the desert. Even on the way to the cross, He did not choose an easier option. He was willing to suffer, and by doing so, He accomplished the atonement.
Human high priests had to seek forgiveness for their own shortcomings. Only then could they perform the atoning sacrifice for others. The high priest was allowed to mediate the atonement, which made it possible for the people to be reconciled.
This task is not an honourable one. It is a task imposed by God Himself. Jesus was begotten by God the Father as His Son. He is the priest according to the order of Melchizedek. In Him, we see the ultimate example of obedience in suffering. The writer uses words that sound like the Psalms to express this. His cries and tears resulted in Him being saved. He was resurrected! Death could not hold Jesus. Jesus was the Son, and as such, he performed His task as high priest perfectly.
Are you making the most of your access to God? The atonement provides free access. God's throne is now a throne of grace, not a place of judgement and justice. Therefore, approach the throne of God and so draw close to His helping hands.
About this Plan

In thirteen days, we will read the entire letter to the Hebrews. We will discover all the treasures that the author shares with us from the Old Testament. Jesus is greater than Moses. Jesus is the high priest of a better covenant. Jesus' blood completely cleanses us from all sins. Jesus reconciles us with God. Therefore, follow Him in faith, as many have done before you.
