The Treasures of HebrewsNäide

“…let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV)
How is your journey through the book of Hebrews going? Has reading the letter encouraged you yet? Or are you still struggling with circumstances in your life that you feel trapped by? Does the faith of the ancient biblical saints inspire you? There is plenty of reason to suppose that you are still wavering. You are constantly being swayed back and forth. True or not? Yes or no?
Keep up the race and look to Jesus Christ, who went before us. He endured opposition. He did not turn away from sinners. He persevered when we would have given up. Follow Him and persevere to the point of blood, like Him. Children face punishments and setbacks. This helps us to live closer to God.
You need Jesus. His role as mediator is far superior to Moses' in the Old Covenant. His blood is much more powerful than Abel's. It leads to gracious forgiveness. It does not cry out for vengeance.
But think carefully. Do not succumb to the allure of complacency. Just as the ancient Israelites approached a blazing mountain, Jesus will one day triumph over all who despise Him. God is a consuming fire.

About this Plan

In thirteen days, we will read the entire letter to the Hebrews. We will discover all the treasures that the author shares with us from the Old Testament. Jesus is greater than Moses. Jesus is the high priest of a better covenant. Jesus' blood completely cleanses us from all sins. Jesus reconciles us with God. Therefore, follow Him in faith, as many have done before you.
