O God, You Are My God

DAY 4 OF 12

O God, Be My God

So, how do we enter into God's love and fully embrace Him as our God and live accordingly? How does a relationship with God Most High develop, and what is our part? How do we relate to the Creator of the universe—the God of gods, the Lord of lords, the almighty One who is holy and worthy of all our worship and praise? You might wonder, “How can this God who is so holy, so magnificent, and so mighty desire a relationship with someone as lowly as me?” Furthermore, you may wonder if having a deep and abiding relationship with the Lord is possible, especially if you perceive a chasm too vast to bridge between His divinity and your humanity, separating you from Him. As believers, we still contemplate and struggle with such thoughts.

If we love God fully, it will impact every relationship in our lives—we will love our neighbor as ourselves. As those chosen by God, we want to know His love and walk in close fellowship with Him. Still, often, our spiritual eyes strain to see Him. We are uncertain of how to love and seek Him when we cannot see Him. We fail to comprehend His boundless, unconditional love. We struggle to believe His Word and walk with Him by His grace. We may know that an intimate relationship with the Lord is possible, but we have been discouraged in our attempts to attain it. Perhaps we have experienced this relationship in part, but desire to know Him more.

Close today in prayer. I am praying that your time with Him in Psalm 63 will strengthen your faith in the power of God and His love for you. May it deepen your love for the Lord and establish an intimate relationship with Him. You may use this suggested prayer:

O God, you are my God. I want you to be my God. You are worthy of all my worship, all my praise, all my heart, soul, mind, and strength! Please meet me where I am and bring me closer to you. Thank you for promising in your Word that when we draw near to you, you draw near to us (Jas. 4:8). Wherever someone or something is taking your place, please reveal it to me by your grace. Grant me repentance to confess and forsake all else to seek your face humbly and love you above all.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
