O God, You Are My GodNäide

My Beloved is Mine and I am His
Some interpret the Song as written expressly about the romantic relationship between a husband and wife. One scholar writes, "Given that marriage pictures the relationship of Christ and the church, the Song’s significance expands for New Testament believers. Consider the possibility of a dual meaning in this book, one that also expresses the love relationship the Lord desires to have with His bride, the church." Particularly, in light of this passage from Ezekiel: “When I passed by you again and saw you, behold, you were at the age for love, and I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness; I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, and you became mine” (Ez. 16:8 ESV). This describes not romantic infatuation but true, abiding love from a passionate God who loves His people intimately.
What could we desire more than an intimate, deeply devoted, and loving relationship with God? This holy and loving God, who has unfathomable power and wisdom to create the universe from nothing, desires a relationship with us! He greatly rejoices over His people (Zep. 3:17 ESV). For us, there is no sweeter thing in this world than communion with Him. As a husband desires the devotion and companionship of his wife, the Lord wants the devotion and companionship of His bride, the church. He will glorify Himself in and through us as we fully delight in Him: "Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’ and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved’” (Rom. 9:25). The Lord seeks us earnestly. We want to seek Him earnestly. Let us respond gratefully to His tender invitation to join in His love, saying in our hearts and with our lives, “My beloved is mine, and I am his” (Sg. 2:16 ESV).
Sing within your soul, "My Beloved is mine, and I am His!" (Sg. 2:16 ESV). Lord God, this is true. Will you forge this truth in my mind and in my heart? You are my God and I am yours!"
