REFOCUS MY HEART + MIND
Everyone has distractions. As shared in the sermon The Decision Before Delilah , fixing your eyes on Jesus gives you the faith to focus. This means that distraction starts when we take our eyes off of Jesus. Today, as we refocus, let’s anchor our hearts and minds, remembering that Hebrews 12:1-2 gives us guidance to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.”
The truth is, God loved us before we ever loved Him. Long before we responded, He was already pursuing us. At some point, He stirred something in our hearts and minds that made us realize: There’s more to life, and it’s found in Him. That moment wasn’t a one-time thing—it’s a rhythm we’re invited to return to, again and again.
It’s up to us to fix our focus on Jesus, because your distraction is your decision. God doesn’t kidnap our distractions. Every decision has a process that starts in your heart, goes to your head, and lands in your hands. So, what has your heart been distracted by?
Let’s create a virtual support group and say out loud, “I chose this distraction.”
Now that you’ve admitted it, let’s refocus by spending time with God. When we intentionally spend time with God, He begins to gently uncover what isn’t from Him in our hearts and minds. This includes our thoughts, patterns, or beliefs that aren’t rooted in His love or truth. God isn’t after behavior modification. He’s after your heart. And when He has your heart, everything else can follow.
Application/ Reflection
Take some time to get alone with God. That might look like listening to a worship song, reading Scripture, journaling, or going on a walk. As you do, reflect on these prompts:
- What is God speaking to you today?
- What distractions are moving from your heart to your head and hands?
- Why are those your distractions?
Be real —God may have more to show you.
Prayer
God, thank You that as I take this time to seek You and hear from You, You promise to meet me. I know that every time I seek You, I will find You. Give me the courage to receive whatever You want to speak to my heart today. Refocus my heart and mind toward You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
About this Plan

Not all distractions are obvious; some are subtle shifts that allow you to drift without even realizing it. The good news? We can refocus. Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us that if we fix our eyes on Jesus then we’ll have the faith to focus. In this 7-day devotional, you’ll pause each day to refocus specific areas of your life and realign with the vision God has for you.
