Love: The Greatest of AllNäide

Love: The Greatest of All

DAY 8 OF 10

Love Believes All Things and Hopes All Things

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
-1 Corinthians 13:7 NLT

We can see that love is not something for the weak. Love is one of the most challenging things that you can do. It almost always stretches you more than you expect. It takes strength to show love. It takes vulnerability.

Love believes the best and hopes for the best. This is not always easy, especially when it comes to people. When people hurt us, the last thing that we want to do is believe in and hope for the best. Often, we feel the opposite, but what does the Word say to do?

“‘. . . And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
- Mark 12:30-31 NKJV

We are to love God first, then love people. There is no greater commandment than these two. So, this means that we are to believe the best of people and hope for the best in people. I know that is not always easy, but it is possible.

We are to love people. People are not our enemy (even though it feels like it). In Ephesians, Paul tells us who the real enemy is. We don’t fight against flesh and blood (people). The enemy is who we battle (Ephesians 6:12), and we thank God that Jesus has already won that battle for us (1 Corinthians 15:57).

So, when someone says something you disagree with, love them anyway. When someone says something that cuts you, love them anyway. I am not saying you must be in a close relationship with them, but we can always believe the best and hope for the best for them.

Confession Today

“Today, I will choose to love! I will believe the best and hope for the best. People are not my enemy; the devil is the one who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Even though he uses people, I will choose to see the best in them and hope for the best for them.”

About this Plan

Love: The Greatest of All

At the end of 1 Corinthians 13, Paul ends the chapter by saying that faith, hope, and love are all important, but LOVE takes the cake! God wants love to be our calling card. Love is the difference-maker. God is pleased with my faith, but people are moved by love. Over the next few days, let’s see what LOVE looks like and how we should treat people.
