Simplicity and Submission
Could embracing simplicity bring you closer to God?
The outward disciplines of simplicity and submission invite us to live with open hands, trusting God with every part of our lives. Simplicity calls us to free ourselves from the pull of materialism and anxiety. Psalm 131:2 describes this contentment: “I have calmed and quieted myself; I am like a weaned child with its mother.”
Simplicity is about focusing on God’s kingdom above all else (Matthew 6:33). When we live simply, we can experience peace and joy, free from the distractions of excess.
Submission, on the other hand, challenges us to lay down our need for control. It’s not about losing ourselves but surrendering our will to God and serving others. Psalm 139:23-24 asks God to search our hearts and lead us in His way.
Jesus modeled both simplicity and submission perfectly, trusting the Father’s plan and living humbly. As we embrace these disciplines, we grow in faith, humility, and freedom, reflecting Christ’s heart to the world.
In prayer: Identify one way to simplify your life this week and one area where you can submit to God or others in humility.
