Daily Devotionals - JuneNäide

He Came for Everyone
These wise men (or wizards, depending on the version) went on a long journey to find the Messiah. Scholars say that many, many, many kilometers separated the wise men from that small village of Bethlehem. They were so convinced of the veracity of the prophecy that they made this weighty commitment to find the child and traveled a long journey across an entire desert to find Him.
Of the four gospels, only Matthew alludes to the visit of the wise men. This account from Matthew shows that people from other parts of the world, not just Israel, eagerly awaited the arrival of the Messiah. Their visit emphasizes the fact that Jesus came not just for the Jews, but for ALL PEOPLE. The last words of Matthew's gospel (28:19) clearly express this mission: "Therefore go and make disciples of ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
