Through the Bible: 2 Thessalonians

DAY 3 OF 3

Something Greater Than Gold

May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
2 Thessalonians 3:5 (NIV).
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us...
Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)

The epic life of Eric Liddell, an Olympic medallist runner of incredible speed, a missionary, inspired many across the world with his relentless love for Christ. Forsaking the ‘gold’ and status of this worldly glory in exchange that he may run the race for the King, Liddell brought the gospel of God’s Kingdom to the multitudes in the midst of vast poverty, persecution and war-torn conditions, and back to his birthplace, China. What was this driving force behind his passion despite the many challenges physically, emotionally and spiritually that he had to face? What was this ‘fire’ that empowered him in his journey? Eric quoted, “A disciple is one who knows God personally, and who learns from Jesus Christ, who most perfectly revealed God. One word stands out from all others as the key to knowing God, to having his peace and assurance in your heart; it is obedience.” May Jesus, the One who exemplified the perfectness of love, obedience and perseverance, steer our lives each day that we may live out this life of transformation, and truly be Kingdom bearers wherever He places us.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Forerunner in our lives, paving the way of perfected love and perseverance for us. May we be disciples for Your glory in all. In Jesus’ name. Amen

About this Plan

Through the Bible: 2 Thessalonians

Shortly after sending the first letter to the Thessalonians that dealt extensively with eschatology, another letter forged in Apostle Paul’s name crept in the church, falsely claiming that Jesus had already returned, causing idleness and confusion among the believers. Paul promptly wrote this letter to rectify their distorted understanding concerning the return of Jesus and to remind the readers, including us, to stay positive and productive on a daily basis.
